Remember this final. My home team (Canucks) vs my idols (NY Islanders). Very hard to decide who to root for. Canucks were never expected to make the finals as they were in the same division as the Oilers, who had finished 2nd in the league only to the Islanders. Then the Oilers lost in 5 games to the LA Kings in a shocking upset, especially in the 3rd game ('Miracle on Manchester') when the Kings came back from being down 5-0 to beat the Oilers 6-5 in OT. That early elimination of the Oilers paved the road for the Canucks to reach the finals for the first time. But knowing they would face the NY Islanders, I was sure the Canucks wouldn't have a chance. And that crippling OT loss in game 1 ultimately sealed Vancouver's fate. They were simply dominated by the raw offensive power and nonstop checking of the Islanders.
